» Q. How do I start on a pilot's license?
» A. The first step in becoming a pilot is to take a "Discovery Flight" with one of our talented instructors. This 45 minute flight will give you an exciting, up close hands-on aviation experience flying one of our aircraft for only $99.00. Following the flight, you can start the simple process of signing up for training by consulting your instructor and/or our scheduling department.

» Q. How much does training cost?
» A. Unlike other schools, which quote prices based on the FAA minimum of 40 hrs. of training, We base our cost of training on the national average of 65 hrs. of training to obtain your Private Pilot License. On average the cost of getting your Private license ranges from $9,320.00-$10,490.00 not including text books, or headsets. It is also important to remember that all of our planes are rented "wet", so the cost of the fuel is included in your rental rate. The cost of flying can vary due to several factors: your work and study schedule, your apptitude, learning curve, and frequency of lessons. One of the best parts about learning to fly is that the more you stay on top of your lessons, the cheaper and quicker it is for you to get your license. *For more in-depth information please see our Training section.

» Q. How long will it take to get my license?
» A. The process of getting your license varies from student to student depending on the apptitude of the individual and frequency of lessons. On average, our students have been able to complete their license in 4-7 months (some more, others less). At Justice Aviation, there are no time limits! You set the pace of your training. We feel that tailoring the training to meet your specific needs is not only convenient, but also allows you to take as little or as much time as you wish. Our ultimate goal is to produce proficient and (more importantly) safe pilots.

» Q. Will I be able to fit this into my schedule?
» A. Absolutely! We understand that most of our students have 9-5 jobs and little time in their schedule, we believe our schedule should not get in the way of yours. Justice Aviation will match you with an instructor who can meet your time requirements and schedule times that will best fit with you.

» Q. How can I find the right instructor for me?
» A. Justice Aviation takes the time to match you with an instuctor with whom you will work well. Communication is paramount and with the large number of instructors here to choose from, we are confident that there will always be someone here to meet your needs. If you find that you don't connect well with your instructor, we encourage you to change instructors anytime, its not a problem. *Please checkout our Instructors page to get acquainted.

» Q. Why Justice Aviation?
» A. Justice Aviation has become the LARGEST flight school in Los Angeles and here at the Santa Monica Airport over the last 14 years. Our reputation of quality training & high standards is surpassed only by our huge selection of aircraft and high-time instructors here to suit your needs. Many flight schools have too few aircraft or instructors to meet student/renter demands, resulting in delayed training and a frustrated student. In addition to regularly washing and cleaning our planes, they are all serviced quickly on the field, to ensure maximum availability. As a Cessna Pilot Center, Justice Aviation utilizes some of the most advanced training materials offered in the Aviation Industry. Cessna's "CBI", (Computer Based training). This package of CD-ROM's takes the student through the program with exciting interactive training that makes learning a pleasure. The program accurately tracks the progress of students making them constantly aware of what goals lay before them and which ones have been achieved. We are also proud to have been chosen by the United States Air Force to train ROTC canidates from local colleges.

Our aircraft are maintained by some of the most experienced establishments on the field: Kim Davidson Aviation, Santa Monica Aviation, & Bills Air Center. Maintenance issues are dealt with in an expedient manner, thus ensuring the availability of our aircraft.

» Q. Why Santa Monica Airport?
» A. Flying from Santa Monica Airport means flying in one of the busiest regions in the country: the LAX/Burbank/Orange County area. This allows the student to learn in a highly challenging environment and improve his or her ability to fly in any situation. Having learned to fly here affords you the opportunity to fly in virtually any airspace in the world. Outside of the metropolitan area, Catalina Island, Big Bear Lake and the California desert are other challenging, and beautiful destinations for the pilot and easily accessable from Justice Aviation.

» Q. I am a Pilot/Student from another country, what do I have to do to start training?
» A. Start by contacting Justice Aviation and let us know you want to train here. Then visit AOPA's Transportation Security Adminisration site for insructions and forms. When you have been approved, you must get fingerprinted and have them sent to the TSA. Once that has happened, they will give the final approval. You may then start training, contact Justice Aviation and start scheduling with an instructor. This whole process can take as little as 3-4 weeks. For more information see: http://www.aopa.org/tsa_rule/index ******PLEASE CONTACT JUSTICE AVIATION & FILL OUT ALL REQUIRED PAPERWORK BEFORE YOU APPLY FOR TSA APPROVAL******

» A. Firstly, we require that all renters and solo students have a renters insurance policy with Liability Coverage of $250,000 - Each Occurrence $25,000 Passengers - Physical Damage Coverage $5,000. Then you need to fill out our renter info sheet & we need copies of a current medical, your pilots license, and a copy of your passport. The actual checkout will consist of: Aircraft Familiarity, Preflight, Maneuvers and Procedures, and Post-Flight Procedures.

» Q. Will I have FUN?!?
» A. no.................OF COURSE YOU WILL! We realize that most people learn how to fly because they need/want a hobbie or outlet to do something fun and exciting. At Justice Aviation we cultivate a jovial country club atmosphere. Our students and renters come here to get away from their day jobs and daily stresses to fly with us, thus we try to make everyone feel comfortable and relaxed, and at the same time do something cool....like learning to fly. We regularly have friends of Justice Aviation come in and let us know how their doing, and to talk about all things aviation. Stop by sometime, have a cup of coffee 'cause between the charter/jet pilots, car enthusiasts, aircraft owners, and entertainment industry folk, you never know who'll be hanging arround here...

» Q. How old to I have to be to start training?
» A. You can start training to fly at any age. We have students as young as 11 years old. Although, to get a license the FAA requires that an applicant be at least 17 years old. You must also be at least 16 years old before you can solo an aircraft.

» Q. If I'm under 18 do I need permission from my parents to take flight lessons?
» A. Yes. We require all students under the age of 18 to fill out a parental consent form signed by his/her legal guardian(s).

» Q. What Is a Demo Flight?
» A. Basically, it's an introduction to General Aviation. Start by making an appointment for a demo with an instructor. On the day of your flight, show up about 5-10min early. Your instructor will sit and chat with you about General Aviation, your goals, & what drew you in(this is also a great opportunity for you to ask any question you may have). Then you and the instructor will go do a "pre-flight" which is a procedure used to check the planes various components such as: Avionics, Airframe, Fuel, Oil, & basically make sure the plane is safe to go up. Once that is done, you'll takeoff and fly arround for about 30-45 min. durring which time you'll be able to do some basic manuvers yourself and see if you like it. Upon landing, you and your instructor will go over the flight and see if you would like to continue/start scheduling some instruction. This first introductory lesson is only $99.00 (less than gas these days!) and is a great way to introduce a friend or loved one who has always wanted to "try it", it also makes a great gift as well! Please allow about 1 1/2hrs. - 2hrs. for your flight, and it's a good idea to make your reservation 2-3 days in advance for the weekdays, and 3-5 days for the weekends. *please note: only one person per flight, we do not allow multiple people to "tag along" on your demo flight.

» Q. Can I purchase a Gift Certificate?
» A. Yes. We offer Gift Certificates for any dollar amount you wish. If you choose, you can come in to purchase, or purchase them over the phone and have it sent to you. These certificates never expire and can be used anytime.

» Q. I have a friend who is a student/renter at Justice Aviation, can i buy him/her more time?
» A. Absolutely! If you know someone that currently takes lessons, or is a renter here, you can purchase more time for them by simply adding any dollar amount you wish to thier account. If you like we can even give you a Gift Certificate to present to them, contact Justice Aviation to set this up.

» Q. HELP! I cant afford training, Can I get a loan?
» A. Yes you can! We offer loans through the Sallie Mae Company. Most of the students, about 70% of them, receive their loans for training. Although, until we receive your loan disbursement you will still need to pay for the training as you go. We will not carry a balance on your account before you receive the loan. Before you apply for the loan however, please come in to Justice Aviation and fill out some student paperwork, we must be aware that you intend to train here before you apply or you will be denied your loan. You can visit their website through our link on our Links section or at: http://www.slmeducationloans.com/?st=CA/

» Q. HELP! Im filling out the TSA application and need some ANSWERS!
» A. ok, here ya go: 1. COURSE ID #: 001 2. COURSE NAME: Private Pilot License 3. COURSE DESCRIPTION: VFR License 4. AIRCRAFT TYPE: Cessna 172 5. START&END DATE: Today & 9 mo. from now.

» Q. I'm a foreign pilot, what do I have to do to rent with you?
» A. It used to be so easy, the rules have changed when it comes to renting aircraft in the U.S. for foreign pilots. You now have to get a special clearance from the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) before the FAA can issue a VFR license based on your foreign one. Check out the FAAs' website for more details at: http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/foreign_license_verification/ Once you get your FAA license, contact us for a Bi-Annual Flight Review (BFR), that will count as your check out and then provided you have renters insurance you will be allowed to rent our aircraft! If you plan in visiting us, you have to plan ahead! For all those pilots who already have the FAA license.....you're ok, once you arrive here all you need is a BFR to get current with us!

» Q. I am a foreign national do you issue U.S. visas to students?
» A. No. Only USCIS-approved schools can issue the required paperwork for the issuance of a U.S. visa. Although we do train foreign pilots, they attain their visa on their own and only have to get cleared through the TSA to train with us. You are more than welcome to train here at Justice Aviation once you obtain your visa!
